Marianne Vidal Potts – Biography

Marianne is a Sydney based artist who focuses on print media. The mother of four’s inspirations has been influenced by her Maltese culture and identity.

For one of her printmaking projects Marianne had to choose from one of the elements. ‘Earth’ as a focus for her ideas, took Marianne on a journey back in time to the Catacombs and prehistoric caves of Malta.

Inspired by the
natural forms of underground environment and ancient places, Marianne has produced intriguing linocuts, lithographs and collagraphs that are dynamic and mysterious, with depth and textural interest.

Marianne acquired a Diploma of Fine Arts at Northern Institute of TAFE, Hornsby College in 2010 and
was awarded the Phyllis Arnot Award in 2011. She was the winner of the People’s Choice Award in the Port Jackson Press 2010 Graduate Printmaking Award.

Marianne first solo exhibition of “Selected Works’ was in 2010 at The Maltese Community Centre in Parkville, Melbourne. Recent solo exhibition called “Catacombs and Caves” was held at Gaffa Gallery, July 2011. Group exhibitions were held at James Makin Art Gallery, Collingwood, Melbourne and at Hornsby TAFE Art Gallery, including the “ Fine Arts Achievers Award 2010” exhibition. Recent group exhibition was held was at Hornsby Library Art Gallery called “=Sum of 3”.

Still being captivated by rock and underground formations, Marianne is continuing to explore natural forms, now of the Australian Jenolan Caves’ underground environment through printmaking at the Open Studio of NSIT, Hornsby College and at Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre in Hornsby. Marianne’s hope and dream is to one day have her own printmaking studio.
